 Hannah Briggs is a ninth-year faculty    member of Denton Dance Conservatory, where she grew up studying dance and training with the school’s resident company, Denton City Contemporary Ballet.  Her professional performing experience includes the musical theatre production of TEXAS in Palo Duro Canyon, member of Cholorock dance company, and more.  In 2011, Ms. Briggs joined DCCB  performing in Young Tanzsommer Dance Festival touring all over Austria.  She earned her B.A. in Dance studying with the Honors Scholar Program at Texas Woman’s University.  Since her graduation Ms. Briggs has also become a certified Jazzercise Instructor and continues to teach, choreograph, and perform various genres of dance including Ballet, Jazz, and Contemporary throughout the state of Texas.

ANNE BLACK KRAUSS

 

DDC is so proud to welcome Ms. Anne Black Scalf back for her 15th year of teaching at DDC!  Ms. Anne teaches all levels of Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Musical Theater at DDC.  She also choreographs for Denton Community Theatre and Music Theatre of Denton.  Her choreography credits include 42nd Street, Oklahoma, Crazy for You, Cabaret, Chicago, Snoopy, Kiss Me Kate, Pippin, and West Side Story.  Miss Anne was also a member of DancExpress (now Denton City Contemporary Ballet) as well as Artistic Director of Denton Civic Dance Theatre from 2001-2005.  Her training has been with such greats as Gracie Tune, Buster Cooper, Savion Glover, Wade Robison, Dan Karaty, and Liz Gallego.  Miss Anne continues to inspire a 3rd generation of young dancers at DDC and we are so lucky to have her on our faculty!

 Kevin Boateng began his training in 2011 at the Tarrant County College SE Campus, where he studied hip hop and took ballet and modern classes.  Kevin officially began his classical training at the University of North Texas, where he studied Cechetti ballet technique and Modern with influences from Bartenieff, Hawkins, and Limon.  While studying at UNT, he trained with Dr. Kihyoung Choi where he studied the Vaganova technique and traditional Korean movement patterns.  After a semester, he joined Dr. Kihyoung Choi's dance company, Movers Unlimited, and was granted the opportunity to perform at Dallas City Performance Hall in the fall of 2014.  Kevin is extremely grateful for having the chance to work with Beth Gill and perform in this year's "Footprints" at the American Dance Festival.  We are very happy to have Kevin teach all levels of Hip Hop this year!

 

LEA ZABLOCKI

Lea is originally from northern New Jersey. She has had most of her ballet training from Master Gariella Darvash, as well as the Joffrey Ballet School in NYC.  She has danced with various classical and contemporary companies such as Metrolpolitan Classical Ballet, Dayton Ballet, Roxey Ballet, and Repertory Dance Theatre. Some of her favorite repertaory includes principal and leading roles in Scheherazade, Paquita, Bolero, Gaite Parisienne, Le Train Bleu, Walpurgis Night, Les Sylphide, Christopher Fleming's The Three Musketeers, Septime Webre's Peter Pan, as well as versions of Dracula, Othello, and too many Nutcrackers to mention!  A number of ballets have been choreographed for Lea including the Firebird, Formation and the full length ballet Kaguya Hime with Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet.  lea is also currently a freelance artist with Mejia Ballet International, Contemporary Ballet Dallas, as well as other companies in the DFW area.  We are proud to have Lea teach the upper levels of Pointe class for us this year!

 

 

 

Matt Rivera Hdshot (1) MATT RIVERA

 

Matt has spent the last 28 years performing on stage across the country and around the world. Credits include the Broadway tours of SWING!, MOVIN' OUT, and CATS; the recent Las Vegas production of MAMMA MIA where he acted as dance captain; and several dance companies including HUBBARD STREET DANCE CHICAGO and TWYLA THARP. Most recently Matt appeared with the AMERICAN DANCE MACHINE for the 21ST CENTURY for it's debut engagement at The Joyce Theater in New York City. Matt's thrilled to call Dallas his new home.  He has returned to his “first love,” ballet, and will be teaching the Ballet VI & VII levels at DDC, for a second year!

 

 

 

 

 

 

BECKY ACTONBecky Acton Color

Becky Acton was born and raised in Denton, Tx.  A graduate of Billy Ryan High School, and currently a student at Tarrant County College, she is the youngest faculty member at DDC.  Growing up through the ranks of Denton Dance Conservatory, Becky also danced for 5 years with DDC’s Denton City Contemporary Ballet, going on tour twice to Austria with the company in 2011 and 2014.  Becky has also trained with Atlanta Ballet, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Dallas Summer Musicals, Joffrey Jazz & Contemporary Intensive, several Thom Clower Ballet Intensives, the Tremaine Dance Convention (2nd Place Winner), and attended the Glenda Brown Choreography Workshop on scholarship.  She is currently dancing with Cholorock Dance under the direction of Jose Zamora in Denton, and performed with Movers Unlimited under the direction of Kihyoung Choi in Ft. Worth last year.  Becky is excited to return to DDC for a third year teaching Contemporary!

Originally from Philadelphia, Ms. Kimberly is a dance educator with 20 years professional experience providing expertise to motivate students to achieve their full potential in the performing arts.  Ms. Mayes trained is ballet, jazz, tap, musical theatre, and contemporary, performed with and represented the Philadelphia 76ers Dance Team, and then worked for Carnival Cruise Lines dancing in 6-10 shows per week for ten years.  She also served as the Production Show Manager during that time and she has set award winning choreography in jazz and contemporary on all ages during the past three years.  We are excited to have Ms. Kimberly teach our higher levels of contemporary, as well as jazz and musical theater classes!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JADAH QUEEN

Jadah Queen has been dancing since 1992. She has a background in tap, jazz, contemporary with expertise in hip hop, krump, and cheerleading. She was the artistic director for a hip hop team, Rocksteady ministries in San Diego CA. She has had many dancing opportunities including: Soul Train, Artistic Ren3gades, Sleepless Collective, Urban FX, as well as music videos, stages across the nation, and countless teaching opportunities in Southern California. She is a proud wife and mother of four. She has a passion to dance and loves to impact the younger generation by helping them find their purpose and talents at an early age.  Jadah currently teaches hip hop for ages 6-8, Mommy & Me Hip Hop, and will be choreographing on DDC's company this spring!

MARLAYNA MUCKENSTURM

Marlayna teaches DDC's Drill Team Prep Classes and is currently a junior at the University of North Texas where she is working toward her degree in Elementary education.  She was a part of the North Texas Dancers for three years and served as their captain for one year. She also served as a varsity member of the Keller High School Indianettes for four years. During her high school experience, Marlayna was named Junior Lieutenant from 2012-2013 and Senior Lieutenant from 2013-2014. Prior to dancing on drill team she danced competitively at Pat Riddle School of Dance, Studio A, and Lifesong Studio. She enjoys kick routines, jazz, and hip hop and is very excited to join the DDC Family!

 

 

 

 

 

Jasmine Morris Nov 2016

 JASMINE MORRIS

Born and raised in Denton and a former DDC student as well as a Denton City Contemporary Ballet alum, Ms. Jasmine  holds a Master's Degree in Dance History from Texas Woman's University.  She is also Co-Artistic Director of the CholoRock Dance Collective, a non-profit dance company focused on marrying the hispanic culture with dance arts in a truly unique style.  Some of Jasmine's influences in the dance world include Leslie Snelson, Jose Zamora, Allan Kinzie, Brandy Niccolai, Rachel Wade, Thom Clower, and Lisa Racina-Torre.  Jasmine has been teaching ballet, jazz, contemporary, and modern for over 10 years throughout the metrolplex and is thrilled to return to her home studio, DDC!  She will be teaching ballet, conditioning, jazz, and modern!
