ANNE BLACK SCALF
DDC is so proud to welcome Ms. Anne Black Scalf back for her 18th year of teaching at DDC! Ms. Anne teaches all levels of Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Musical Theater at DDC. She also choreographs for Denton Community Theatre and Music Theatre of Denton. Her choreography credits include 42nd Street, Oklahoma, Crazy for You, Cabaret, Chicago, Snoopy, Kiss Me Kate, Pippin, and West Side Story. Miss Anne was also a member of DancExpress (now Denton City Contemporary Ballet) as well as Artistic Director of Denton Civic Dance Theatre from 2001-2005. Her training has been with such greats as Gracie Tune, Buster Cooper, Savion Glover, Wade Robison, Dan Karaty, and Liz Gallego. Miss Anne continues to inspire a 3rd generation of young dancers at DDC, and we are so lucky to have her on our faculty!
Matt has spent the last 28 years performing on stage across the country and around the world. Credits include the Broadway tours of SWING!, MOVIN' OUT, and CATS; the recent Las Vegas production of MAMMA MIA where he acted as dance captain; and several dance companies including HUBBARD STREET DANCE CHICAGO and TWYLA THARP. Most recently Matt appeared with the AMERICAN DANCE MACHINE for the 21ST CENTURY for it's debut engagement at The Joyce Theater in New York City. Matt's thrilled to call Dallas his new home. He has returned to his “first love,” ballet, and will be teaching the Ballet VI & VII levels at DDC, for a third year!
Becky Acton was born and raised in Denton, Tx. A graduate of Billy Ryan High School, and currently a student at Tarrant County College, she is the youngest faculty member at DDC. Growing up through the ranks of Denton Dance Conservatory, Becky also danced for 5 years with DDC’s Denton City Contemporary Ballet, going on tour twice to Austria with the company in 2011 and 2014. Becky has also trained with Atlanta Ballet, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Dallas Summer Musicals, Joffrey Jazz & Contemporary Intensive, several Thom Clower Ballet Intensives, the Tremaine Dance Convention (2nd Place Winner), and attended the Glenda Brown Choreography Workshop on scholarship. She is currently dancing with Cholorock Dance under the direction of Jose Zamora in Denton, and performed with Movers Unlimited under the direction of Kihyoung Choi in Ft. Worth last year. Becky is excited to return to DDC for a fourth year teaching Contemporary!
Originally from Philadelphia, Ms. Kimberly is a dance educator with 20 years professional experience providing expertise to motivate students to achieve their full potential in the performing arts. Ms. Mayes trained is ballet, jazz, tap, musical theatre, and contemporary, performed with and represented the Philadelphia 76ers Dance Team, and then worked for Carnival Cruise Lines dancing in 6-10 shows per week for ten years. She also served as the Production Show Manager during that time and she has set award winning choreography in jazz and contemporary on all ages during the past three years. We are excited to have Ms. Kimberly teach our higher levels of contemporary and Jazz, as well as musical theater classes for her second year!
Jadah Queen has been dancing since 1992. She has a background in tap, jazz, contemporary with expertise in hip hop, krump, and cheerleading. She was the artistic director for a hip hop team, Rocksteady ministries in San Diego CA. She has had many dancing opportunities including: Soul Train, Artistic Ren3gades, Sleepless Collective, Urban FX, as well as music videos, stages across the nation, and countless teaching opportunities in Southern California. She is a proud wife and mother of four. She has a passion to dance and loves to impact the younger generation by helping them find their purpose and talents at an early age. Jadah currently teaches all of our hip hop classes, starting at age 6 and going through advanced/adult levels. DDC is happy to welcome her for a second year!
In her youth, Jessie Rosenberger was an active member of the Tyler Civic Ballet (2002 -2003). Additional influences in Jessie’s training are Tena Scalco Vogel (Ft. Worth Ballet), Sarah Gamblin (BeBe Miller Company), Shelley Padilla (Colorado Ballet) and Melissa Young (Dallas Black Dance Theater). In 2010 and 2011, Jessica traveled to New York City for The Summit dance teacher convention . She has attended summer workshops with Ballet Austin and artists such as Jill Sigman (ThinkDance) and Amanda Edge (New York City Ballet). Jessie was introduced to the world of modern dance while attending Kilgore College as a member & officer of the world famous Rangerettes, and traveled to Washington D.C. to perform for the Presidential Black Tie and Boot’s Ball. Jessie continued her education at Texas Woman’s University, studying techniques such as Horton, release, and contact improvisation. She was awarded the Anne Schley Duggan Outstanding Senior Award and graduated with honors in 2009 with her BA in Dance. Jessie has been teaching dance since 2004 in the DFW area and is a 500hr certified yoga teacher. She held a residency at the University of Texas in Dallas (2013). She is the founder and artistic director of Simple Sparrow Dance Company, presenting concerts since 2010 in the DFW area and receiving wonderful reviews in both the Dallas Morning News and Theater Jones. We are so glad to have Ms. Jessie teaching with us at DDC again this year! She will be teaching ballet and tap.
Miss Katie was born and raised in Denton, Texas and started dancing at Denton Dance Conservatory when she was three years old. After 11 years at DDC and growing up through the ranks of our non-profit performance company, the Denton City Contemporary Ballet, Katie join the Guyer High School drill team where she served as a lieutenant her Junior year and Captain her Senior year. She then attend Tyler Junior College and became an Apache Belle for two years. Katie is continuing her education at the University of North Texas, where she will major in Dance Education. Miss Katie is assisting in the office, and teaching some of our combo classes. DDC is excited to announce that she will also teach be teaching our Drill Team Prep Workshops in the spring!
Jasmine Morris was born and raised in Denton, Texas. She started dancing at age 8 and was immediately enraptured with jazz dance. Trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, and tap dancing, Jasmine continued her dance education with Lisa Racina-Torre at Denton Dance Conservatory from age 12-18. At DDC Jasmine trained with such professionals as Leslie Snelson, Stephanie Millings, Courtney Moore-Hubbard, Lisa Racina, Thom Clower, James Clouser and many others. Jasmine has performed all over the state of Texas as well as in Austria. She is a former principal dancer and Co-Assistant Artistic Director for Denton City Contemporary Ballet and is currently the CoArtistic Director CholoRock Dance Collective. In addition to her dance career, Jasmine received a bachelor’s of science degree in history from Texas Woman’s University and her Master of Arts degree in history. She is certified to teach in the public school system and is currently planning to get her MFA in Dance during the next few years. We are honored to have Ms. Jasmine teaching for us again—she will be teaching Leaps/Turns, Conditioning for Dancers, Jazz, Ballet, and more!
