Ballet is the

Foundation!

Ballet IIIA and IIIB (ages 8-10 & 9-11)

Ballet Level III is the first time dancers are required to attend twice a week.  This level creates a bridge to assist a student's transition from the recreational combo classes into a more structured class environment. They are introduced to an increased level of formal training consisting of barre and centre work. The posture, placement and comportment of classical ballet will be emphasized. The practice exercises introduced at this level for alignment, flexibility, and coordination will develop a strong foundation of physical and cognitive understanding necessary for Classical Ballet training. This class will automatically perform in DDC’s annual holiday production, “A Gift for Emma,” as well as the year end Recital Showcase.

Ballet IVA and IVB (ages 10-11 & 11+)

Twice a week class building on the foundations taught in the Level III classes, dancers continue to work on placement, flexibility, vocabulary, and use of correct turn-out.  Barre exercises increase in length and tempo and the use of “epaulement” and “port de bras” is emphasized.  Centre “facings” are added in the centre, as well as increased level of jumps.  Strengthening exercises “en releve” are added in order to prepare for solid pirouettes.  Female dancers may be invited to attend the Pre-Pointe class on Fridays.  Male dancers are invited to take the BOYZ class on Mondays to supplement their regular twice a week class. This class will automatically perform in DDC’s annual holiday production, “A Gift for Emma,” as well as the year end Recital Showcase.

Ballet VA and VB (ages 11-14)

Twice a week class building on the last three years of training.  Most dancers are in either their first year of Pointe class or have been “en pointe” for one-two years.  Barre exercises involve more technically challenging combinations, including more focus on increasing flexibility, strength on demi and ¾ pointe, adage, combinations “en releve,” and balances.  Drills for stronger pirouettes, “beated” petit allegro, and higher expectations for memorization skills as well as performance quality are emphasized.  Female dancers will also be in a Pointe class, and male dancers are invited to take the BOYZ class on Mondays to supplement.  This class will automatically perform in DDC’s annual holiday production, “A Gift for Emma,” as well as the year end Recital Showcase.

Ballet VI (ages 12-16)
